About the procedure

Surgical removal of skin lesions is a safe and effective procedure involving excision of pathological skin lesions, such as pigmented moles (commonly known as freckles), inflammatory tumours (atheromas, lipomas, furuncles, and hard fibromas), as well as precancerous and cancerous skin lesions.

The procedure is performed with great precision to make the trace left after the lesion as small as possible. What the treated site will look like in the end depends on the individual regenerative capacity of the Patient. To accelerate the regeneration process, we recommend that Patients undergo a LED lights therapy available in our clinic (more about the LED lights therapy here). In the event where a scar is left, we recommend treatment sessions with the ablative fractional laser (more about laser scar removal here).

Not all lesions qualify for surgical excision. Some may be removes by a surgical laser. During the consultation appointment, which is held before the procedure, the physician decides about the right treatment method. Learn more about laser removal of skin lesions here.

What does the treatment procedure look like?

Surgical excision of skin lesions is performed under local anaesthesia. The first stage of the procedure is to anaesthetise the treatment site. An anaesthetic agent is injected under the skin using a thin needle, which makes it possible to perform the excision in a completely painless manner. Next, the lesions are removed, the wound is sutured and covered with a dressing, and the specimen collected is sent for histopathological examination.

Pain sensations

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia which makes it absolutely pain-free.

Duration of the treatment procedure

The duration of the procedure depends on the size, number and location of the lesions. The expected time in the case of a single lesion is approx. 30 minutes, while several lesions require around an hour to be removed.

Post-treatment recovery

7 – 14 days after the treatment procedure, it is necessary to arrive to have your stitches removed. The results of histopathological examination are ready in approx. 3 – 4 weeks.
