About the procedure

Laser treatment of onychomycosis is a procedure that opens up new therapeutic possibilities for individuals struggling with fungal infections of finger and toenails.

The patented VSP Nd:YAG technology of the FOTONA laser penetrates the nail plate and thermally destroys the fungi present under its surface, without damaging the adjacent tissues.

Unlike local medications, which concentrate only on minimising the fungal infections, the laser therapy activates regeneration processes that have beneficial effects on the nails, making them stronger and more resistant to damage.

It is worthwhile to note that, contrary to oral medications that affect the entire body, the laser therapy produces no adverse effects and its results are confirmed by clinical trials.

FOR WHOM?

It is an effective treatment procedure and an alternative to long-term local treatment (ointments, varnishes) and oral medications that expose the entire body to potential adverse effects.

It is also an ideal solution for individuals who want to regenerate their nail plate or for athletes whose nail plate is exposed to mechanical damage on a daily basis. The laser treatment activates regeneration processes that have a beneficial effect on the general structure and colour of the nail plate.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE TREATMENT?

In order to be qualified for the laser treatment of mycosis, during the consultation appointment with our physician, the Patient needs to present the result of a mycological test that confirms fungal infection of the nail plate.

A mycological test must be performed by a certified laboratory (e.g. Śląskie Laboratoria Analityczne /ŚLA).

Before the treatment procedure, it is necessary to prepare the nail plate, i.e. to file down the outer, thickened layer.

WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT PROCEDURE LOOK LIKE?

The treatment procedure involves using a laser beam to make circular movements over the entire nail plate and the surrounding tissues. The laser energy is evenly deposited over the entire surface of the nail plate.

Pain sensations

During the procedure, the nail plate feels slightly warm.

Recommended number of treatment procedures

The complete treatment procedure consists of 4 sessions performed every 7-28 days.

Laser treatments should be performed on all the fingernails/toenails even if the bacterial infection affects only some of them.

In order to maintain the effects, it is recommended to repeat a series of 4 treatment procedures after a few months.

Duration of the treatment procedure

The treatment procedure on 10 nails takes approx. 45 minutes.

Post-treatment recovery

The great advantage of the laser treatment of mycosis is the absence of a recovery period. Patients can resume their normal daily activities immediately after the treatment procedure.
