About the procedure

The High Power Q-Switch 1064/532 nm laser head is one of the components of the modern Alma Harmony PRO laser platform.

It emits nanosecond pulses which are selectively absorbed by the dye of the tattoo/permanent makeup targeted. The ink particles are broken up to be subsequently removed from the body by the immune system. As a result, the tattoo/permanent makeup becoming gradually lighter.

For whom?

The treatment is recommended for people who want to get rid of their unwanted tattoo/permanent makeup, as well as for those who wish to lighten their tattoo to make a cover-up.

The Q-Switched head is equipped with several tips (applicators) offering different wavelengths. The Nd:YAG 1064 nm wavelength laser applicator is recommended for dark pigmented tattoos: black, grey, graphite or blue, while the 532 nm KTP wavelength applicator is used for light tattoos (red, orange or yellow). The extensive options of adjusting the treatment parameters to the individual needs of each Patient make it possible to achieve excellent final results.

What does the treatment look like?

The physician performing the procedure sets the right parameters and protects the Patient’s eyes with special goggles before starting the procedure on the indicated area. When the procedure is over, the Patient receives post-treatment recommendations to follow.

Pain sensations

30 minutes before the procedure, anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin at the proposed treatment site. As a result, the treatment procedure is virtually pain-free and the laser pulses are experienced as mild pins and needles.  Our Patients describe this procedure as highly comfortable.

Recommended number of treatment procedures

In order to remove a tattoo/permanent makeup, it is necessary to undergo a series of treatment procedures. The number of sessions depends on: the colour of or number of colours in the tattoo, the area and density of dye application, the type of dye used, the depth of the tattoo, the skin colour, the locality of the tattoo, the patient’s individual response to laser treatment.

The response to treatment in the case of amateur tattoos differs from that of professional tattoos. The former usually need 4 – 5 sessions to be removed whereas the latter are very dense and highly pigmented, thereby requiring 6 – 8 treatment sessions. The treatment sessions should be performed at intervals of 6 – 8 weeks.

Permanent makeup is easier to remove and it is usually enough to undergo 3 – 5 sessions.  Sometimes, however, when permanent makeup has been applied too deeply (as in the case of a tattoo), the number of sessions increases. The treatment sessions should be performed at intervals of 4 – 6 weeks.

Duration of the procedure

Depending on the treatment site, the procedure takes from 10 minutes (for small tattoos and permanent makeup) to 60 minutes (for large tattoos).

Post-operative recovery

Immediately after the procedure, the skin is reddened and swelling (oedema) may develop. It is also possible to superficial bleeding to occur. It is recommended to wear a protective dressing on the treated area for a few days. Scabs appear within a few days of the procedure, which is a normal response of the body to the therapy. The symptoms will subside spontaneously, usually within a few days of the procedure.
